Act Like a Baby!

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

It’s amazing what you can learn from a baby.  Babies don’t fear anything, they haven’t learned to.  They haven’t learned that they can get hurt, so they bound through the first few years of life unhindered by the obstacles many adults struggle through on a daily basis.

While some fear is good and healthy, such as not touching a hot stove, driving slow in hazardous weather (or not driving at all) and taking meds as prescribed, other fears hinder us from developing into the Christians God desires us to become.

We fear rejection, so we don’t open ourselves to the possibility.

We fear pain, so we build walls around our hearts.

We fear failing, so we don’t try.

We might even fear success, so we invent reasons why we shouldn’t move forward.

We all have fears.

But what are we doing with those fears?

I hope that as you embark on your New Year’s Resolutions you don’t let fear hinder your progress.

We mustn’t become slaves to fear, we mustn’t let it determine our lives and we mustn’t entertain the idea that fear cannot be overcome!

Remember the promise given to us in the Bible.  God has not given us a spirit of fear…so who does it come from?  It comes from the enemy, the enemy who wants to steal your joy.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 ESV

So the next time fear sets in, ask yourself it is healthy, such as keeping you alive.  If it’s not, then discard it.

Stop letting Satan have the victory.  Stop allowing him the power to dictate your life and start putting him in his place. His main purpose is to keep us from living our lives abundantly through Christ.  That is why he sends doubts and fears.  As long as he has you running away from POWER, LOVE and not living in a  SOUND MIND (free from fear), he is not worried about you positively affecting the kingdom of God, but when you tell him where he can shove his fears, he is powerless.

“…because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
1 John 4:4b NIV

I encourage you to embrace the POWER, LOVE and SOUND MIND Jesus offers.  To do that you must not buy into the lie that you are powerless to fight fear.  You can overcome!  Fear is a lie.  Stop operating out of a stance of fear and start walking confident in God’s promises.

I am watching my son now pull up on book shelves. He doesn’t fear falling, he doesn’t fear the books landing on his head and he doesn’t stop to assess the situation.  Instead, he goes forward, without fear.  If he didn’t have this inborn desire to develop, if he had an adult’s capacity to analyze situations, he probably would never learn to walk.  After all, when you learn to walk you fall.  After you know how to walk you have to decide which direction to go and so the list of potential problems continues.  If a baby possessed all the logic and fear adults do, they would decide it is much safer to stay in their play pins and never take that first step.

So for once, act like a baby and embrace your dreams!

How do you handle fear?  What are you fearing right now and what can you do to start putting that fear in its place?
