"Nearing Home: Life, Faith, and Finishing Well" Book Review

I just finished reading Billy Graham’s newest book:  Nearing Home:  Life, Faith, and Finishing Well.  While this book is written primarily for the older population, it has many applicable truths for people of all ages.  In fact this book as inspired two additional posts!  You can check them out at

I recommend this book for anyone who is struggling to find meaning in their lives, no matter their age. In a society focused on the latest and greatest, where the newest fad is already ten minutes old, Billy Graham reminds us our past helps pave the way for the future.  He challenges each of us to know who we are and to pass on our knowledge to those around us.

We can learn so much from those who have gone before.  The older generation needs to embrace its calling to lead future generations to build on a solid foundation that can only be found in Christ, but in order to do that, they must have a solid foundation themselves.  This book helps guide us to establishing such a foundation today.  We cannot wait to build, before we know it storms will come and we must be firmly established now in order to stand tomorrow.

Billy Graham highlights all the reasons for preserving the heritage of our older population while encouraging everyone to be mentors to those younger.  No matter our age, there is always someone looking up to us, someone watching how we handle life’s difficulties.  We all play a role in this world; no one is too old or too young for God to use in a mighty way.

This book reminds us that life is a precious gift and that no matter what our age, God can and will use us if we are willing instruments.  We should not focus on our pasts, that was then and this is now. Live in the now, don’t hesitate to grow spiritually, the only thing holding any of us back from being spiritually mature Christians who bear fruit is ourselves.  Build a foundation in Christ, and then pass it on.

This book was provided complimentary by the publisher, Thomas Nelson, through BookSneeze for the purpose of review.
